This bulb is an improved version of the older 20W Compact Fluorescent (CFL) glass tube bulb which has now been phased out. Being LED means this bulb will produce more light than the older glass tube bulb for a lot less energy consumption. It also has an increased lifetime and better reliability than the older glass tube type CFL bulbs. Furthermore, it has no mercury vapour unlike older CFL bulbs meaning it is better for the environment.
